A note from the Founders

Thanks for taking an interest in us and our mission. We are Chris and Jennifer Calaprice and we became involved in the fight against pancreatic cancer in October of 2003 when Chris was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

As a survivor and caregiver, we have been in the trenches with this disease for the last five years. It is a battle we have continued to wage everyday since we learned that a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer does not simply disappear once you go to chemotherapy. Rather the cancer has an ongoing presence in our lives.  It has required us to find what we call a “new normal” – a normality that adapts to and overcomes the traumatic events that affect us. The good news is we have learned to continue living life.

In fact, we can say with confidence that in spite of the grim statistics. + read more I, Chris, am living proof under the right specialist's care, pancreatic cancer, when diagnosed early, can be treated and survived like other cancers and people can sustain a certain quality of life. We want to spread the message that there is hope for those diagnosed with this disease and reason to fight for survival.

At the same time, we want to engage the country and convey the urgency demonstrated by the graphs below. We have watched this lethal cancer go essentially unnoticed and undiscussed by the public, leading to it being one of the most under funded and under researched cancers. It is time for change and Road2ACure plans to accelerate it.

It’s time to shine the spotlight on this boogey man cancer and bring it the attention that it needs to be defeated.  To win this war against pancreatic cancer it will take more than those affected by the disease; it will take a nation that is unwilling to accept defeat in a war that is taking over 33,000 lives per year in the United States alone.

Get on the Road with us. There are so many ways that you can get involved with Road2ACure today, from joining our online message board discussions and live feeds from the road (available soon), to coming out to one of our events, hosting a visit, riding a mile or two (there are 20,000 to choose from), breaking out the checkbook, or just getting friends and family together to wave at us as we roll through your state. Whether this is your first time getting involved or you are already part of another cancer advocacy group, we are asking for your help in spreading awareness. This awareness campaign will benefit the cause of pancreatic cancer as a whole.  Partner with us in reaching early detection, treatment, prevention, remission, and our final destination a CURE.

The road to be traveled is not hopeless, but requires people coming together and working to bring about change.  It’s time to rally the troops and ride!

Accelerate Change.  Save Lives.  Now!

Thank you for your support,
Chris and Jennifer Calaprice
